About 400 motorcycle riders are expected to mount up Saturday to raise funds for a foundation that provides for the families of slain peace officers and helps build memorials in their honor.
The fourth annual "Law Ride" is expected to draw active and retired cops, as well as law enforcement supporters, for a trip from Riverside to Cherry Valley by way of Idyllwild.
Riders will assemble outside the Riverside County Administrative Center, 4080 Lemon St., shortly before 9 a.m. and then head east to Idyllwild, led by an escort of California Highway Patrol officers, according to Linda Soubirous, president of the Riverside County Peace Officer Memorial Foundation.
After a brief stop in Idyllwild, the pack will continue on to Bogart Park in Cherry Valley, where a prize raffle will be held during an outdoor concert.
More than $13,000 was raised for the Peace Officer Memorial Foundation during last year's Law Ride.
The money collected from the $30 entrance fee, the raffle and donations will go toward helping police departments in the region build their own fallen officer memorials, as well as assisting the families of officers killed in the line of duty.
"We hope everyone comes out and has a lot of fun," Soubirous said. "You know, 9/11 is always a special day and a time for all of us to show our respect to those who are protecting us here and away from the country."
She said this year's ride is being dedicated to the five California Highway Patrol officers killed in the line of duty this year.
Soubirous was widowed in 1993 when her husband, Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Kent Hintergardt, was gunned down while on a domestic violence call. She has since remarried.
Among those expected to see the riders off Saturday are Riverside police Chief Sergio Diaz and Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff
